• How many landfills does DeKalb County own and operate?

• Who may use the landfill?

ONLY Citizens of DeKalb County or licensed DeKalb County businesses.  PROOF of residency is required.

• What is needed to prove residency?

The landfill will normally accept a vehicle with a DeKalb county sticker on the tag; a DeKalb county address on the driver’s license of the vehicle operator, or a DeKalb County invoice (such as water bill or tax assessment).

• What type of waste does the landfill accept?

normal home-generated bagged refuse, such as non-combustible trash, discarded furniture, old appliances, etc. yard trimmings, such as grass clippings, leaves, pine straw, limbs, or tree trunks (prepared as discussed in the mailed Residential Collections Procedures Pamphlet), building materials, such as lumber, shingles, carpet, etc. commercial waste, such as rocks, stumps, concrete products, etc.

A maximum of 10 passenger car tires from residents only, and small dead pets. 

Yard trimmings must be in paper bags or containerized loosely for disposal.  No plastic bags.

• Is there any type of waste that the landfill will not accept?

  Yes.  The landfill will not accept any hazardous material (corrosive materials, explosive materials, inflammable materials, or dangerous material of any kind), liquids (including old paint, used motor oil, etc.), lead-acid batteries, feces, or old tires generated through a commercial operation.

• Is there a charge for using the landfill?

Citizens that pay the “sanitation assessment fee” for household collection can dispose of “normal home-generated bagged refuse” at no charge. Inasmuch as the Sanitation Department does not collect building materials, stumps, dirt, rocks, concrete products, and tires, these items would result in a charge for disposal.  Also, large amounts of tree limbs would result in a charge since these would be the result of a commercial tree trimmer, landscaper, or building contractor operation.  There is a charge for dead animals.

• What is the charge to use the landfill?

   Building material--$33.00 / ton

  Dead animals-----$200.00 / ton

  Passenger tires--- $100.00 / ton or $1.00 each

  Asbestos-----------$200.00 / ton plus $200.00 surcharge

• What are the driving directions to the Seminole Road Landfill?

From I-285 E and exit 48 (Flat Shoals Parkway), proceed East (outside the perimeter) on Flat Shoals Parkway approximately 1.5 miles to the traffic light at the intersection of Waldrop Road and turn right.  Follow Waldrop Road to the traffic light at the intersection of River Road and turn left.  Follow River Road approximately 1.5 miles and turn right on Clevemont Road.  Seminole Road Landfill is the first driveway on the right at 4203.

• Does the landfill do any recycling?

Yes.  There is a citizen’s drop-off area where citizens can dispose of segregated waste by type in specifically marked containers.
